For the 3rd year running Powerhire were the supplier of choice at Wimbledon for temporary generator power to be on standby should power be required in the event of an emergency mains power failure.
Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, being held at the All England Club in London since 1877 and is widely considered the most prestigious. It is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is the only one still played on grass.
The Wimbledon Championships is hugely traditional and has a special place in the hearts of the nation. It takes place over two weeks from late June and is one of the most prominently watched sporting events being televised in 200 territories with a global audience of 1 billion people.
Through unparalleled coverage across TV, radio and online, Wimbledon will always unite the nation through must see sporting moments, captivating audiences of all ages. Wimbledon coverage was once again given the full BBC sports digital treatment with 15 live HD streams available across all devices, text commentary and audience interaction. The Broadcast compound onsite at Wimbledon ensures the world’s greatest tennis championships can be enjoyed by the widest possible audience, which is why temporary generator power is required to provide backup power in case an emergency power solution is necessary.
With a solid knowledge of the site at Wimbledon, having now provided the required temporary generator power for the tournament on numerous occasions, Powerhire were obviously once again delighted to be the provider of the tournaments power in 2016. Even though Powerhire 
Engineers knew the complex well we still visited site to be sure that the most suitable temporary generator power was specified together with confirming the most efficient arrangement for their location as the client’s requirements were slightly different to the previous year.
As well as supporting the outside and onsite broadcasting with standby temporary generator power we also supplied additional temporary generators, fuel tanks, tower lights, distribution and rental cable to power lighting in the comms extension field and car parks as well as all the security x-ray machinery used before entry to the courts.
Four days prior to the commencement of The Championships all the temporary generator power and associated equipment was transported to site by our Logistics and Installation Engineers, who were able to utilise an onsite tractor unit to locate and connect up the temporary power solution before commissioning it and leaving site.
