Founded in 1976 following the demise of the town’s former football club, this Hertfordshire Club was promoted to the Football League after winning the Conference National in the 2009–10 season and currently are currently competing in League Two of the English football league system.

In April 2011, the chairman of the club confirmed that they were looking for investment to re-develop the North Stand, which held a capacity of 700 people. The new plans involved a 2,000 all-seater stand to signify their transition from a former non-league outfit to that of an ambitious, forward-thinking Football League club.

With funds raised the existing North Terrace was demolished in January 2018 but due to unforeseen circumstances works stalled until early 2019. The Club restarted the long awaited planned works of the new covered North Stand in early in 2019. The new stadium would include large LED screens, a sports bar and conference room.

During these works the on-site civil contractor cut through the main power cable on a day the Football Club was preparing to host a function in their Broadway Event Suite!

Luckily, the incumbent Electrical Contractor, Crestel Contracts were also on site carrying out electrical upgrade works. Their Director, Gary knew exactly what to do; he contacted our Powerhire Sales Director requesting an emergency temporary generator making clear that the situation was critical due to the club hosting the event that evening.

After a short conversation and agreement on the appropriate power requirements for the site our Sales Director immediately called our head office to request a 100kVA silenced temporary generator and a 2000 litre fuel tank be transported to the football club without delay to ensure that the event could go ahead as planned.

Our operations team jumped into action, locating and booking out the generator, fuel tank and ancillary equipment whilst our logistics manager sourced the suitable transport and a driver.

As soon as all the equipment was loaded onto the lorry, they made their way to the ground without delay where the driver was met on site by Gary, Director of Crestel Contracts and guided through to the drop off point.

To the delight of event customers and the Football Club, the event went ahead successfully as planned with no glitches. Our equipment remained on site for a further 5 weeks whilst the civil contractor repaired the damaged cable.

Gary Covell, Crestel Contracts – “Powerhire delivered on many levels! This kit was delivered on time, in immaculate condition and ran perfectly throughout the 5 week hire. They will be our first port of call for any future temporary power requirements”.
