26 Generators, 9 Fuel Tanks and 35 Lighting Towers for Cropredy

Our Powerhire engineer, for the 24th year, has provided festival generator power consultancy for the Fairport Convention’s Cropredy music extravaganza.

Festival generator power at CropredyFairport Convention are an English folk rock and electric folk band which formed in the 60’s and have a reputation as a fundamental group involved in the evolution of English folk rock. When they decided to call it a day they did a farewell concert in Cropredy where a couple of the band members lived.  A year later they decided to reconvene for what would become their annual reunion.  Thus, the Cropredy Festival was born starting with just a couple of thousand spectators in the small village of Cropredy, just north of Banbury in Oxon.  In its 49th year the 2016 festival welcomed an invasion of just over 20,000 music-lovers during the second weekend in August.

One of Powerhire’s Engineers has been involved with the festival for 24 years and he assists and advises Fairport Convention with the necessary festival generator power every year. With years of involvement our engineer is well aware of the festival’s generator power requirements and makes sure the necessary equipment is allocated for the event at this busy time of year.

The festival generator power is required each year to provide power to the campsites, showering facilities, lighting, the main stage and arena, the first aid field hospital tent, merchandise stands and the usual food and beverage stalls across the site.

The 20,000 strong audience at this spectacular outdoor music festival included children and grandchildren of festival-goers who have been coming back year after year.  And with a strong contingent of younger newcomers the event had a uniquely ‘family-friendly’ atmosphere steeped in real tradition.

Along with Fairport Convention who obviously play year after year, the main stage has hosted many other great acts including Madness at this years festival, Level 42, The Proclaimers, Toyah Willcox Steeley Span, Alice Cooper, Status Quo and many more amazing musicians.

To ensure a smooth set up Powerhire’s Installation engineers arrived onsite with the festival generators, fuel tanks and associated equipment a week prior to the start of the event.  26 festival generators ranging from 19kVA to 300kVA as well as 9 fuel tanks and 35 lighting towers were loaded, delivered and set up at the festival site in the village of Cropredy.

Just before the start of the festival our Powerhire engineer returned and remained on site with an additional engineer to make sure the festival generators ran smoothly for yet another successful Cropredy festival.  Next year will be his 25th year and the festivals 50th with almost double the festivals generator power!
