Powerhire were contacted for the supply of temporary generators to support the intensive care ward of the largest teaching hospital in the East Midlands.
As part of their planned maintenance programme the Hospital’s substation was to undergo a distribution panel and mains upgrade and therefore the provision of temporary generators running unlimited was required to replace the mains feed for these major works to be undertaken.
This hospital is the newest in East Midlands and in 2010 completed a massive rebuild, doubling the size of the buildings. With the first roof-top helipad in the East Midlands, state-of-the-art intensive care facilities and enhanced services for stroke and cancer care it’s modern facility has 1139 beds and 35 operating theatres, more than 300 consultants and 7000 nurses and other staff providing medical care for approximately 625,000 patients each year. With around the clock patient care, essential day to day procedures and life-saving operations, the efficient distribution of power throughout the Hospital is undeniably essential and due to the more modern facilities and state of the art technology throughout the Hospital the incoming mains and distribution panel required an upgrade. This essential planned upgrade for the substation distribution of power to the intensive care ward therefore required the temporary generators to replace the mains power.
The client informed Powerhire of the exact power specification required for the ward. The 2 x 1000kVA temporary generators would run synchronised and unlimited, providing a fail-safe method of constant power to the ward whilst the planned upgrade was undertaken at the substation.
Before delivering to site Powerhire commissioned the temporary generators at their Power Rental Depot in Kent. The system was set-up to run in parallel redundancy to prove they would work together at the required load and to ensure one would run without the other should this be necessary. Once complete the temporary generator sets were delivered to site together with rental cable and a 20,000Ltrs fuel tank for the sets to run unlimited for the five week hire period.
