Once a Sports College, this School in the London Borough of Bromley is now in its fourth year of conversion into an Academy sponsored by the Harris Federation. The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity with over 25 years’ experience of education in and around London, setting standards of excellence and fulfilling high expectations.
Since 2004 the Federation has grown to include 37 primary and secondary Academies, and by August 2015 the new Primary Academy at this London Borough of Bromley school was all ready for new students. To enable the rebuilding of the new secondary Academy temporary classrooms were put into place by September 2015 ready for the first phase of the development of the main school.
A leading UK construction company undertaking the redevelopment works contacted Powerhire for the provision of temporary generator hire to supply mains power to the temporary classrooms and to also supply power for the construction of the re-build.
At the beginning of September Powerhire delivered 300kVA and 100kVA temporary generator hire sets as well as fuel tanks and appropriate lengths of cabling for connection to the 150 temporary classrooms for lessons in Business, ICT, Art, Music and Design.
By the beginning of the new term in November all pupils were successfully moved and settled into the new temporary classrooms. By December 2015 the demolition of the Sports Hall officially commenced …the beginning of the end of the original school!
As Christmas arrived Powerhire upgraded the 100kVA onsite to a 200kVA temporary generator as the demolition of the main school progressed and site cabins installed as well as a lorry wheel wash system set up and tower cranes readied for construction of the new build.
By January 2016 demolition of the old blocks continued and a path cleared to accommodate the new entry road. With all specified buildings demolished and over a thousand tipper lorries on site having removed soil and masonry the new build was progressing well by the time March 2016 arrived.
In May we delivered an additional 300kVA temporary generator set to site to power the tower cranes that had arrived onsite to support the main building rebuild.
Powerhire engineers visited site regularly, not only to service the temporary generator sets but to also carry out the fuel management for all generators. This was to ensure optimum continuity of power to the temporary classrooms and building construction throughout the duration of the temporary generator hire period.
