Between the 1st and the 12th June the Invicta Barracks in Maidstone hosts the annual Safety In Action event for year 6 pupils [10/11yrs] from Primary schools in the surrounding areas.

For the last 20 years the Kent Branch of the Institute of Engineering & Technology have been involved, together with the following organisations, in putting together practical life safety workshops with the aim of equipping & developing local youth with the necessary skills in dealing with potential hazardous situations they may encounter on a daily/weekly basis as they progress through from primary school into senior school.

1) Kent County Constabulary – Stranger danger and internet hazards
2) Kent Fire and Rescue Service – Fire safety
3) RNLI – Beach and water safety
4) Maidstone Borough Council – Environmental health
5) Maidstone Borough Council – Road safety/Crossing busy roads
6) Maidstone Borough Council – Bus behaviour
7) Drugs, alcohol and nicotine awareness
8) First aid
9) Railway safety
10) Kent branch of the Institute of Engineering & Technology – Electrical hazards

Within each workshop the groups of children are small to ensure their interaction and attention so their knowledge gain is maximised.

As with every year invaluable support for the provision of generator power was offered by Powerhire on a free of charge basis. We were only too happy to provide generator power for the IET’s electrical hazards workshops. Their workshop consisted of four separate potential electrical hazard demonstrations that could happen within the kitchen, the bathroom, the living room/bedroom and outdoor environments with a great deal of imagination going into creating numerous faults & electrical hazards.

Not only were we happy to provide generator power we also provided a fuel tank, distribution units and all the temporary cabling to generate power for all of their workshops, lighting and projection equipment and for the onsite refreshment and control cabins. Powerhire also set up & installed the generator power & associated equipment as well as breaking it down and transporting it back on our lorries to our warehouse in Kent.

“As always a very grateful thank you from all at Safety in Action Maidstone for the generator power and temporary distribution equipment. Another fault free temporary power year ”.
