The iconic location of Hampton Court Palace once again hosted a temporary outdoor ice rink this year for plenty of festive fun in the glorious Tudor surroundings, where, during the evening sessions skating under the stars was possible against the backdrop of the Palace stunningly lit up!
This year the temporary rink was opened on Friday 21st November 2014 up until the 4th January 2015.
Powerhire were contacted by an existing customer in early October to ascertain our availability to supply the complete rental package to power the industrial chillers to keep the ice rink at optimum temperature for the perfect skate! Of course we were delighted to provide power at such a prestigious location and instantly booked the necessary equipment and engineers into the rental schedule for the project.
The specific power requirements were advised by the customer and due to the prestigious nature of the location, the importance of the opening ceremony and the ice rinks popularity Powerhire were asked to not only provide the temporary power, a back-up generator was also requested as a safeguard should the main generator fail.
Powerhire recommended 2 x 500kVA generators [1 x unlimited and 1 x standby] together with an 8,500Ltrs fuel tank and a 2,000Ltr fuel tank as well as a changeover distribution panel together with all the necessary cabling to set the rental power up to all the associated equipment. In addition to rental plant a service engineer was also incorporated into the package to attend site halfway through the hire period to ensure continued prime running of the generator set.
During mid November Powerhire’s engineers and logistical team delivered and installed the rental package and prior to leaving site ensured it was fully tested and certified to the required electrical standards ready for the grand opening on 21st November.
This year the opening of the rink at the royal palace was launched by Robin Cousins and several of the professional skaters from Dancing on Ice which was truly spectacular.
Mr Cousins said: “What better setting can there be for an open air ice rink than the grounds of the beautiful Hampton Court Palace on a lovely winter’s evening? We are excited to be working closely with the palace to ensure this seasonal attraction attracts more people than ever.”
The two month hire period ran smoothly providing a consistent temperature output from the chillers without the need to call the standby 500kVA generator into action. The client was extremely satisfied commenting on how economic and fuel efficient the temporary generator proved to be.
